Valentina Zarytova

zarit1.jpg (20700 bytes)Valentina Zarytova graduated from the Novosibirsk State University. She has been working at the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry and then at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry. Since 1986 she is a head of the laboratory of Nucleic Acids Chemistry. In 1990 she became Professor of Bioorganic Chemistry.

Valentina Zarytova is a co-author of the first publication where complementary-address modification of nucleic acids by oligonucleotide derivatives was formulated. This work was done in the Institute of Organic Chemistry in 1967 year under Dr. Grineva leadership and virtually was the first publication in the antisense technology. Valentina Zarytova was prized by Shemyakin award of the Academy of Science of the USSR for the investigation of the mechanism of phosphorylation reactions used in Bioorganic Chemistry. Zarytova has published about 230 articles, reviews and books.

For the last decade V. Zarytova has been working on designing biological active compounds based on oligonucleotides, on studying fundamental principles of interaction of nucleic acids and oligonucleotides, and on improving the selectivity of this interaction. The results obtained by Prof. Zarytova and co-workers are used for designing new method of the diagnostic of genetic disease.
